Meet Hayata

I am Hayata Takeshita, a landscape photographer dedicated to capturing the beauty of national parks and public lands. While I enjoy many photographic styles, my signature style aims to evoke a dreamlike or otherworldly feeling, characterized by landscapes dominated by one or two colors, yet rich in fine details that tell a sophisticated story.

My artistic influences stem from both classical painting and photography. From painting, the Hudson River School and Tonalism inspire me; the former for its awesome depiction of the American landscape and the latter for its serene, moody single-color dominance. In photography, I draw from Pictorialism and the Photo Secession movement, both of which view photography as a creative art form beyond mere documentation.

The purpose of my work is straightforward. I create images that transport viewers to places of wonder and aim to elevate their mood through my unique, dreamlike landscapes. I visited many museums in my youth and I strive to offer a visual experience that reflects the awe I felt while visiting them, and I hope to share that sense of wonder through my photographs.

I am based in New Jersey, USA, although I was in California for many years.
